Rhine river low water levels disrupt German industry and logistics
Record low water levels on the Rhine are causing severe disruptions to German logistics and industry. At the critical bottleneck near Kaub, navigable water depth reached as low as 11 centimeters, effectively halting north-south river traffic. Many cargo ships are currently restricted to carrying only 20 percent of their usual capacity to avoid running aground.

Despite these efforts, industry leaders warn that the infrastructure remains vulnerable, noting that a long-delayed river deepening project at Kaub is not expected to be completed until 2033.
