Rhineland-Palatinate funds Liveable Cities project in Landau
The state of Rhineland-Palatinate is providing financial support to the city of Landau and the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) for their participation in the European Interreg B-Northwest Europe project, ‘Liveable Cities’. State Secretary Daniel Stich presented funding totaling 119,000 euros to the partners to lower financial barriers for municipal involvement in European cooperation projects.
Running from 2026 to 2029, the ‘Liveable Cities’ project involves twelve partners from five European countries. The initiative focuses on addressing the consequences of unsustainable urban development, such as biodiversity loss, air pollution, and climate change vulnerability. The goal is to increase urban resilience through ‘blue-green infrastructures,’ including green roofs, urban wetlands, and ecological corridors.
In Landau, the city and RPTU will implement specific pilot measures alongside qualification programs designed to train over 190 individuals from administration, science, and civil society in sustainable urban development.
