Rhineland-Palatinate reports record e-scooter fatalities

E-scooter accidents have reached record levels in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, with four fatalities reported so far this year. Recent incidents include the death of a 15-year-old in Alzey and a 23-year-old in the Germersheim district following a collision with a car.

Data from the State Statistical Office in Bad Ems indicates a significant rise in injuries. Between January and June, there were 350 injuries, representing an increase of more than 54 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. By the end of July, the total number of accident victims reached 436.

Experts from the ADAC attribute the rising numbers to the increased popularity and widespread use of e-scooters. The demographic most affected is young people, often aged 14 and older, who value the devices for the independence and low cost they provide. However, experts note that many young riders lack formal training and may not be fully aware of traffic regulations.
