Rhône schools face tension as union warns of 150 class closures

The SNUDI-FO union has issued an alert regarding the upcoming school year in the Rhône department, describing the conditions as “inacceptable.” The union claims the department will have more than 150 fewer classes than last year.

According to the union, this reduction is driven by 94 planned job cuts in Rhône schools, following 83 cuts during the previous school year. Additionally, the creation of 32 schooling support hubs (PAS) is expected to lead to further class closures.

The union expressed significant concern for students with disabilities, stating that over 1,000 students in the department lack places in specialized institutions or appropriate school programs. They also noted that the number of support staff (AESH) remains insufficient.

Further complications include reforms to teacher replacement systems, specifically the removal of REP+ brigades, and technical issues with IT systems that are hindering the finalization of class lists and registrations. A strike notice has been filed for the start of the school year.
