Rho Island military hostels inaugurated by Greek Chief of Defence

On August 8, 2026, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, attended the inauguration and handover of two new hostels on the island of Rho. The facilities were constructed through a donation from the Konstantinos and Sofia Tsuvelekaki family.

The new hostels, which were founded a year ago, aim to provide upgraded living conditions for military personnel serving on the remote island, thereby improving their daily lives. During the ceremony, General Houpis expressed gratitude to the Tsuvelekaki family, describing the donation as a practical expression of patriotism and support for the Armed Forces, particularly those serving in remote border areas.

The event was attended by various high-ranking officials, including the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus, and the Ambassador of Brazil to Greece, among other military and local political leaders.
