Rhode Island collegiate sports feature upcoming broadcasts and historic venue matchups

Rhode Island collegiate athletics are highlighted through upcoming media coverage and historic venue matchups. The sports show ‘Anchored in Athletics’ is scheduled to air on September 25 on 790 The Score and WPRI+. Hosted by Owen Kane, the episode will feature interviews with several Rhode Island College student-athletes, including seniors Carolyn Bailey and Andrayah Williams from women's volleyball, senior Andrew Frezza from men's cross country, and Haylie Peacock and Faith Owren from women's tennis.

In baseball, the University of Rhode Island is set to play an exhibition game against Boston College at Cardines Field in Newport. The 118-year-old stadium is noted for its unusual outfield dimensions and historical significance. Originally a railroad drainage basin known as ‘The Basin,’ the site was renamed in 1936 to honor Private Bernardo Cardines. The field has a legacy of hosting legendary players such as Satchel Paige and Yogi Berra and currently serves as the home for the Newport Gulls.
