Rhodes court sentences man to 17 years for robbery and attempted murder

A 42-year-old man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison by the Mixed Jury Court of Rhodes for robbery and attempted murder. The conviction stems from an incident on June 5, 2025, in which the defendant attacked a 58-year-old homeless man on a central street in Rhodes.

According to court records, the defendant struck the victim in the head and attempted to strangle him using a shoelace before stealing a mobile phone worth 100 euros. The court issued a 10-year sentence for the robbery and a 12-year sentence for the attempted murder, resulting in a total of 17 years, plus a 5,000 euro fine. The sentence does not have suspensive force.

The defendant is also scheduled to face trial next month in Kos for the murder of a 75-year-old man in the Old Town of Rhodes.

In a separate incident in Lavrio, a 32-year-old man of Romanian origin is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly invading the home of his former partner and stabbing both her and her current partner. The suspect claimed he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time. He has a history of domestic violence reports, including four previous complaints from the same victim.
