Rhodes daycare director sentenced for privacy violations
A Rhodes court has sentenced a 61-year-old daycare owner and director to eight months in prison, with a three-year suspension, for violating personal data protection laws and GDPR regulations. The ruling follows an investigation that discovered 10 security cameras recording hallways and classrooms where young children were present.
The court rejected claims that parental consent had been obtained through formal declarations. The investigation was triggered by parental complaints regarding the treatment of minors, leading to a police inspection on October 21. While external cameras were properly marked, authorities found an extensive internal recording network during the inspection.
The defendant, who has no prior criminal record, has appealed the decision, moving the case to a secondary court for further adjudication.
