Rhodes: Man dies after car swept into sea by flash floods

A 62-year-old man, Evangelos Gioublakis, died following severe weather conditions in the Stegna area of Rhodes. The victim was inside his vehicle, which was parked near a stream in a sloping area close to the sea, when sudden torrential rains and rushing waters swept the car into the sea.

Emergency services used a crane to recover the vehicle from the water. Rescuers found the man unconscious, and he was later recovered covered in a blanket after the car became wedged among branches.

Gioublakis had recently retired in July but had chosen to continue working at a hotel to complete the tourist season. He was originally from Macedonia and had moved to Rhodes to start anew following a separation from his wife.
