Rhodes: Large rockfall blocks road to Anthony Quinn beach

A massive rock detached from a hillside and fell onto the road connecting the Ladiko area to Anthony Quinn beach in Rhodes, Greece. The incident caused damage and blocked the only access road to the beach.

Approximately 250 people, mostly tourists and local business employees, were present at the beach at the time of the incident. Additionally, about 100 vehicles were left stranded in the area due to the blockage. No injuries were reported as no pedestrians or vehicles were passing through the specific point when the rock fell.

Civil Protection authorities and the Municipality of Rhodes have mobilized a response. Heavy machinery has been deployed to the site, but technical services must first assess the hillside to ensure there is no immediate risk of further rockfalls before removal operations begin. Authorities are prioritizing the safe evacuation of the people on the beach before nightfall.
