Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Takes Over Pontypridd Police Station Amid Town Centre Redevelopment

South Wales Police formally handed the keys of the former Pontypridd Police Station on Berw Road to Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council on 21 July. The handover is part of a broader plan to modernise policing facilities and redevelop the town centre. A new, more visible police base on Taff Street is being built, allowing officers to operate closer to the heart of Pontypridd while emergency and neighbourhood services continue uninterrupted.

Simultaneously, RCT Council has announced a temporary one‑way traffic system on Morgan Street while the old police station and the adjacent Berw Road car park are demolished. The scheme, starting 3 August, will route vehicles around the bus station and close footways beside the demolition site, with signage to guide pedestrians. The traffic changes are intended to accommodate demolition work, scaffolding installation and related bridge repairs, and will remain in place for the duration of the project.
