Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships begin in Frankfurt

The 2026 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships have commenced in Frankfurt, Germany, serving as a critical qualification event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The competition offers spots for three individual gymnasts and three teams.

German Olympic champion Darja Varfolomeev has taken an early lead in the individual competition, securing the top position after the first day with scores in the hoop and ball exercises. Despite a brief moment of confusion when her music failed to start, she recovered to maintain her standing.

Brazilian gymnasts Bárbara Domingos and Maria Eduarda Alexandre also showed strong early performances. Domingos currently holds ninth place in the individual all-around classification following her ribbon and clubs routines, while Alexandre sits in fourth place after her ball routine.

Canada is also represented in both the individual and group competitions. The Canadian group is scheduled to compete in the Group All-Around final on August 15.
