Riau regional governments advance carbon economy and emission control initiatives
Regional governments in Riau, Indonesia, are advancing initiatives to manage carbon economy and emissions. The Riau Provincial Government is accelerating its 'GREEN for Riau' program, which aims to utilize carbon trading as an alternative funding source for infrastructure, environmental restoration, and community economic benefits. The province has received a recommendation and approval to use the ART-TREES standard from the Ministry of Forestry and is currently completing registration processes for international carbon markets.
In Kampar Regency, local officials are also focusing on Carbon Economic Value (NEK) governance. During a regional workshop in Jakarta, Kampar Regent Ahmad Yuzar emphasized the importance of understanding carbon mechanisms to support low-emission development and sustainable regional growth. The goal is to ensure that local environmental policies align with national greenhouse gas emission control strategies.
