Ribadavia Library receives tenth María Moliner Award
The Ribadavia Municipal Public Library has been awarded its tenth María Moliner Award for Reading Animation. This recognition, granted by the Ministry of Culture, honors reading promotion projects in municipalities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants.
The winning project, titled ‘Biblioteca comprometida: lectura, comunidade e conciencia global’ (Committed Library: reading, community and global awareness), uses literature and library activities to introduce children and families to topics such as peace, equality, human rights, migration, and social inequality. This initiative builds upon work started in 2023 aligned with the 2030 Agenda, which previously addressed environmental and health issues through programs like ‘Reciclaxe’ and ‘Bibliofarmacia’.
Teresa Rivela Martínez, the sole person responsible for managing the library, noted that the award recognizes the collaborative work between the library, local schools, the City Council, and organizations such as Save the Children. The prize includes a grant of 2,700 euros, which will be used to purchase new books.
