Ribbonfish identified as high-calcium and DHA-rich seafood

Ribbonfish, a common and affordable sea fish, contains significantly high levels of calcium and DHA. According to data cited by CCTV News, 100g of ribbonfish contains approximately 431mg of calcium, which is about four times the amount found in the same weight of pure milk (107mg). This amount provides more than half of the recommended 800mg daily calcium intake for adults. The fish also contains vitamin D, which aids in calcium absorption.

Regarding DHA levels, research published in the journal Food Science and Technology in 2024 indicates that some varieties of ribbonfish contain approximately 279mg of DHA per 100g, surpassing fish such as cod and carp. Furthermore, a 2020 document from China Food and Nutrition noted that certain white ribbonfish samples contained up to 1,400mg of DHA per 100g, a level comparable to salmon. However, DHA content can vary significantly between different species of ribbonfish.
