Ribeira Brava donates funds to Banco Alimentar da Venezuela
The President of the Ribeira Brava Municipality, Jorge Santos, has donated 5,000 euros to the Banco Alimentar da Venezuela. The funds were raised during the Luso-Venezuelan Festival, an initiative organized by the municipality in partnership with Diário de Notícias.
This donation will support the operational costs of the Food Bank of Venezuela, which works directly with 55 social organizations. Following earthquakes on June 24, the institution has been providing recurring support to between 15,000 and 16,000 people, including approximately 10,000 citizens living in temporary shelters and camps.
Marienela Fernandes, president of the Banco Alimentar da Venezuela, noted that the funds are essential for covering logistical expenses, such as fuel and maintenance for vehicles used to transport food. The organization, which operates in 13 Venezuelan states, has expanded its response to include medicines, medical supplies, and clothing in addition to food surpluses from agriculture and industry.
