Ribeira Grande to receive video surveillance and police station funding

The Ministry of Internal Administration has expressed “total availability” to support a new video surveillance project in Ribeira Grande, located on the island of São Miguel. The system will be monitored by the Public Security Police (PSP).

Following a meeting in Lisbon between Ribeira Grande Mayor Jaime Vieira and Secretary of State for Internal Administration Telmo Correia, the project will undergo necessary evaluations and must be reviewed by the National Data Protection Commission to ensure compliance with privacy laws.

Discussions also focused on the urgent requalification of the Ribeira Grande PSP station, which suffered structural damage from a recent fire. The Secretary of State guaranteed maximum priority for the building's renovation, with 3.2 million euros in funding secured to be transferred to the municipality through a competence delegation contract. The meeting also addressed the reinforcement of police personnel and technical resources in the municipality.
