Ribera entrepreneur investigated for labor exploitation

Authorities in Ribera, Italy, have uncovered a case of labor exploitation following inspections by the Carabinieri Labor Inspectorate. A 50-year-old entrepreneur was reported to the authorities and faced approximately 25,000 euros in fines and sanctions.

The investigation revealed severe working and living conditions for a foreign worker, who was reportedly subjected to grueling shifts and forced to live in housing that lacked essential safety, hygiene, and health standards. Additionally, the employer failed to conduct risk assessments, provide necessary training, or supply required protective equipment.

The Flai Cgil Agrigento union expressed indignation over the findings, calling for greater protections for foreign workers and simplified legal hiring procedures to prevent the agricultural sector from becoming a site of exploitation.
