Ribera man sentenced to 14 years for fatal shooting

Ciro Ruvolo, a 51-year-old farmer from Ribera, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for the voluntary homicide of 31-year-old Tunisian national Mahjoub Aymen. The sentence was issued by Judge Dino Toscano of the Sciacca Court following a shortened trial (rito abbreviato), which allowed for a reduction in the penalty.

The killing occurred on February 10, 2025, in via Buoni Amici, near the municipal building in Ribera. Aymen was shot twice from a white Fiat Panda as he stood outside a bar with several compatriots. While Ruvolo denied driving the vehicle at the time of the ambush, surveillance footage from the municipality was a decisive factor in the investigation.

Prosecutors suggested an 18-year sentence, citing motives linked to conflicts over drug trafficking and dealing. The victim, Mahjoub Aymen, had previous involvements in anti-drug operations. The victim's family was represented as a civil party during the proceedings.
