Ribera officials seek bipartisan funding for Castello Dam water pipeline

Stakeholders in Ribera, Sicily, have reached a bipartisan agreement to address the regional water crisis and support the agricultural sector through infrastructure improvements. During a meeting involving farmers, technicians, and institutional representatives, participants identified the need for a stable technical body to monitor water availability and climate change impacts.

A primary focus of the initiative is the expansion of the Castello Dam water pipeline (Adduttore Castello). Local representatives, including Carmelo Pace, Margherita La Rocca Ruolo, and Michele Catanzaro of the Democratic Party, have pledged to support regional amendments and funding requests to rebuild and double the capacity of the pipeline.

The goal is to secure resources through the Sicilian Regional Assembly's budget to fund the first section of the work, spanning from the Castello Dam to the Tavernola tank. Proponents emphasize that upgrading this insufficient infrastructure is a strategic necessity to protect the local economy and ensure water security for farmers.
