Ribera regions face emergency declaration request following extreme winds

The People's Party (PP) has submitted a motion to the Valencia Provincial Council requesting that the Spanish government urgently declare the Ribera Alta and Ribera Baixa regions as areas ‘gravely affected by a Civil Protection emergency.’ This request follows an extraordinary meteorological event on August 20 that produced extreme wind gusts.

Wind speeds reached up to 149 km/h in Sumacàrcer and 143 km/h in Alzira, causing significant damage to buildings, infrastructure, public roads, and vegetation. The motion emphasizes the severe impact on the agricultural sector, calling for a specific evaluation of losses in crops and farming infrastructure to mitigate economic consequences. The initiative aims to secure support for local municipalities, such as Algemesí, that have already passed similar motions.
