Riberas de Loiola association cuts festivals to fund land defense
The Riberas de Loiola Neighborhood Association has decided to reduce its local festival program to redirect resources toward defending public equipment land. The cuts include the elimination of the nightly verbena, mariachi performances, and traditional meals such as the costillada and paella.
The association stated that the decision follows a mandate from its General Assembly to prioritize the defense of zoning plots against the construction of residential facilities. The group noted that actions by the Basque Government’s Housing Department and the Donostia City Council’s Urbanism area have forced the association to allocate funds and volunteer time toward legal counsel, formal allegations, and technical urban reports.
