Éric Zemmour faces scrutiny over comments on civil unrest
Reconquête leader Éric Zemmour has drawn significant attention following media appearances regarding recent civil unrest in France, specifically the riots occurring on October 17 and 18. During interviews on RMC and LCI, Zemmour analyzed the violence, including the arson of the Limoges city hall, through the lens of his political theories.
On LCI, Zemmour characterized the rioters as a “horde of Maghrebi and African barbarians” and claimed the events represented the “true face of the great replacement.” He further attributed the unrest to an ideological “hatred of France” and “revenge for colonization.”
These remarks have triggered a response from the collective Sleeping Giants, which has filed reports with Arcom, the French media regulator. The group denounced the broadcast for containing “racist remarks without real contradiction.” During the LCI segment, journalist Darius Rochebin attempted to contest Zemmour’s claims by noting that the “great replacement” theory is highly disputed and citing eyewitness accounts of participants of various ethnicities.
