Ricarda Lang criticizes Green Party migration stance and Chancellor Merz

Former Green Party leader Ricarda Lang has acknowledged failures within her party regarding the migration and integration debate. Speaking to n-tv, Lang stated that the integration debate has been neglected in recent years because the party feared addressing difficult issues, leaving the topic to others.

Lang highlighted specific challenges, such as radicalization among young men in Berlin-Neukölln and teachers feeling overwhelmed in classrooms. She emphasized that the party must recognize these problems to effectively discuss solutions.

Green Party leader Felix Banaszak supported this shift, stating that progressive migration policy must not ignore parts of reality that do not fit the party program. He argued for the necessity of clearly naming issues, such as Islamism, to avoid losing public trust.

Separately, Lang criticized Chancellor Friedrich Merz for what she described as a lack of leadership regarding the process to succeed Frank-Walter Steinmeier as Federal President. She characterized the current debate over gender requirements for the role as undignified and a sign of authority loss within the Chancellery.
