Ricarda Seifried to join Cologne ‘Tatort’ as new detective

Ricarda Seifried has been announced as the new detective for the Cologne-based installment of the German crime series ‘Tatort’. The 36-year-old actress will portray Chief Inspector Merle Rautenberg, joining Dietmar Bär, who plays Detective Freddy Schenk.

Seifried succeeds Klaus J. Behrendt, who is stepping down from his role as Max Ballauf after 30 years and 100 episodes. Behrendt stated his decision was driven by a desire to spend more time with his family. His final appearance as Ballauf is expected to be in the 100th episode, which is scheduled for broadcast around autumn 2027.

Filming for the 101st episode, titled ‘Entfesselt’, is already underway. Seifried, a Munich native and graduate of the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts, is known for her work in productions such as ‘Deutsches Haus’ and ‘Polizeiruf 110’. Her debut in the Cologne ‘Tatort’ is expected to reach viewers by late 2026 or 2027.
