Puebla Congress evaluates anti-doping requirements for political candidates

The Puebla State Congress is preparing working groups to evaluate a legal proposal that would require anti-doping tests for candidates seeking public office. Proposed by cabinet coordinator José Luis García Parra, the initiative aims to prevent organized crime infiltration and ensure representatives are free from addictions. While the Morena caucus supports the measure, Pável Gaspar Ramírez, president of the Government and Political Coordination Board, noted that regulatory timelines mean any changes would not apply to the 2027 electoral process.

In other legislative developments, the PRI in the Chamber of Deputies, led by Rubén Moreira Valdez, announced plans to demand the appearance of federal secretaries, including those from PEMEX and the Ministry of Education, to account for various national issues starting September 1. Meanwhile, in Durango, legislator Ernesto Alanís Herrera emphasized that political dialogue has allowed for legislative progress despite partisan differences. In Oaxaca, Deputy Tania Caballero Navarro highlighted increased inter-institutional coordination to strengthen security in regions like Juchitán de Zaragoza.
