Political updates: Judicial selection in Venezuela and violence reports in Mexico

In Venezuela, the National Assembly has preselected 30 candidates to form the Judicial Nominations Committee. This committee is tasked with the renewal of magistrates for the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ). Out of 124 applicants, the selected individuals were chosen based on professional trajectory and democratic values. The final members are expected to be sworn in on October 20.

In Mexico, a study presented by UN Women and received by the National Electoral Institute (INE) reveals high levels of political violence against women during the 2023–2024 electoral process. Approximately 95.3% of surveyed federal legislative candidates and 95.9% of state congress candidates reported experiencing violence, with psychological violence being the most prevalent at 95.1%.

Additionally, Pedro Haces Jr. has officially registered his candidacy for the coordination of Morena's defense committees in the Tlalpan borough of Mexico City, aiming to lead the party's local project for the 2027 elections.

In Costa Rica, allegations of irregularities have surfaced regarding the organization of the traditional Zapote festivities. A financial consultant has denounced inflated prices and anomalies in the auctioning of spaces for the fairgrounds, suggesting that municipal parameters significantly exceed real market values.
