Ricardo Pachón, flamenco producer, dies at 89

Ricardo Pachón, a highly influential music producer, arranger, and composer known for pioneering the ‘nuevo flamenco’ movement, has died in Seville at the age of 89.

Pachón was a central figure in the fusion of traditional flamenco with other popular genres. He is most notably recognized for producing Camarón de la Isla’s landmark 1979 album, ‘La Leyenda del Tiempo’. His extensive discography includes collaborations with prominent artists such as Lole y Manuel, Veneno, Pata Negra, Tomatito, and Rocío Jurado.

Beyond music production, Pachón held significant roles in cultural institutions, including serving as the director of the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco. He also worked with RTVE, producing various flamenco-related documentaries and programs. His contributions to the arts were recognized with several honors, including the ‘Leyenda del Flamenco’ award in San Fernando.

Andalusian President Juanma Moreno expressed his condolences, describing Pachón as a reference producer who revolutionized flamenco and left an indelible mark on musical history.
