Ricardo Salles' assets rise 122% as he files Senate candidacy

Former environment minister Ricardo Salles, now a deputy for Novo‑SP, registered his candidacy for the Brazilian Senate representing São Paulo. In the filing he declared total assets of R$ 9.05 million, a 121.8% increase from the R$ 3.97 million reported in 2022. The growth includes a rural property in Portugal valued at R$ 3 million, a São Paulo residence worth R$ 3.15 million and a São Paulo rural estate valued at R$ 2.9 million. The rise far exceeds inflation adjustments and the declaration does not explain the source of the additional R$ 4.97 million. Salles, known for his controversial stance on environmental regulation during the Bolsonaro government, is the first Senate candidate to formalise his run in the state this year.
