Riccardo Alemanno seeks expanded sickness protections for Italian professionals

Riccardo Alemanno, president of the Istituto Nazionale Tributaristi (Int), is advocating for the expansion of sickness and injury protections to over 550,000 professionals. Currently, these protections under the 2022 Budget Law apply only to the statutory sector, leaving those contributing to the INPS separate management fund without similar coverage.

Alemanno met with Deputy Andrea De Bertoldi at the Chamber of Deputies and subsequently wrote to Claudio Durigon, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies. The goal is to include these expanded protections in the upcoming Budget Law.

To address funding, Alemanno suggested utilizing the existing surplus from the sickness assistance contributions paid by the very professionals currently excluded from the protections.
