Riccardo Bossi arrested to serve 5 years and 9 months in prison

Riccardo Bossi, the eldest son of Lega founder Umberto Bossi, has been arrested in Busto Arsizio, Italy. Following a decision by prosecutor Carlo Nocerino to consolidate multiple sentences, Bossi must serve a total of 5 years and 9 months in prison.

The consolidated sentence stems from several definitive convictions involving crimes committed between 2011 and 2020. These include embezzlement, fraud, and the unlawful receipt of citizen's income (reddito di cittadinanza). Specifically, Bossi was found to have improperly received approximately 12,800 euros in subsidies between 2020 and 2023. Other convictions involve the misappropriation of Lega funds and fraudulent insolvency related to luxury purchases.

A separate conviction of 1 year and 4 months for the alleged mistreatment of his mother was excluded from this specific cumulative sentence calculation as it remains subject to proceedings in the Court of Cassation. Renzo Bossi, the founder's other son, commented on the arrest, stating that individuals must take responsibility for their own choices and noting that he and Riccardo have always lived separate lives.
