Riccione releases rescued turtle Cira back to Adriatic Sea

At sunrise on the beach in front of the Fondazione Cetacea headquarters in Riccione, about four hundred people—including many children and their families—gathered to watch the release of Cira, a 60‑kilogram female sea turtle. The event was filmed by the Uno Mattina Estate team for Rai Uno, highlighting the community’s enthusiasm for marine conservation.

Cira had been rescued on 14 July after an accidental capture off Cesenatico and was cared for at the Cetacea recovery centre, where she regained full health. Her return to the Adriatic follows the recent release of another rescued turtle, Nancy. Christian Andruccioli, Riccione’s assessor for the environment, praised the large turnout as a testament to the town’s strong bond with nature and the ongoing commitment of volunteers to protect marine biodiversity.
