Rice defeats UTSA 3-0 in soccer home opener

Rice University defeated UTSA 3-0 in a soccer match held at the Park West Athletics Complex in San Antonio. The game, played on a water-logged field, marked UTSA’s American Conference home opener.

Rice secured the victory with goals from Eileen Albers, who converted a penalty kick in the 30th minute, followed by a score from Sloane Popov in the 31st minute. Lauren Pickup added a third goal for the Owls in the 74th minute to seal the win. UTSA struggled offensively, failing to register a shot in the first half.

UTSA head coach Derek Pittman attributed the loss to a lack of preparation, stating, “We got it wrong this week as a coaching staff in how we prepared the team.”
