Rice export prices in Thailand and Vietnam reach two-year highs
Rice export prices in Thailand and Vietnam have reached their highest levels in approximately two years due to supply concerns and robust demand. Thai 5 percent broken rice prices rose to 490 to 495 USD per ton, driven by demand from the Philippines and production decreases caused by flooding in certain regions. Market analysts also cite concerns regarding the El Niño phenomenon and limited supply for the upcoming crop cycle.
Vietnam's 5 percent broken rice export prices increased to 480 to 490 USD per ton, marking a high since December 2024. This rise follows the resumption of Vietnamese rice procurement by the Philippines. Vietnamese government statistics show October rice exports rose 37.2 percent year-on-year to 475,000 tons.
In contrast, Indian 5 percent broken parboiled rice prices fell to 382 to 386 USD per ton as new crop inflows began in northern states. While Thailand and Vietnam face price increases, Thailand's overall export volume for the first nine months of the year fell 19.3 percent compared to the previous year, with annual exports projected to reach only 6.5 million tons, the lowest in five years.
