Rice water hair growth trends analyzed

Rice water has become a viral beauty trend on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, with users claiming it can accelerate hair growth and combat hair loss. This practice is rooted in centuries-old traditions in various Asian cultures, such as the Yao women in southern China, who are known for using fermented rice water for hair care.

However, scientific research suggests a distinction between the aesthetic benefits and actual physiological changes. While rice water may improve the appearance of hair by adding shine, reducing frizz, and improving combability, these effects do not necessarily mean the hair is growing faster or that hair loss is being prevented. Experts note that there is a significant difference between homemade rice water and specific active ingredients found in rice bran.
