Richard Branson links Venezuela investment to upcoming elections
During the Startup Venezuela Summit 2026 in Caracas, Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson described Venezuela as a “great opportunity” for innovation and entrepreneurship. However, he warned that significant international capital flows are contingent upon the restoration of institutional trust, legal certainty, and the holding of transparent elections within the next 18 months.
Branson emphasized that recent legislative reforms are insufficient without a solid legal system, stating, “Investment needs certainty. It needs an adequate judicial process, transparency, and legal security.” He noted that the international financial community remains cautious, awaiting clear signals regarding the rule of law.
In a meeting with the transition administration led by Delcy Rodríguez, Branson discussed potential mentorship programs for local entrepreneurs and the country's tourism potential. While he did not rule out future business ventures in commercial aviation or the cruise sector via Virgin Voyages, he clarified that such large-scale projects would require long-term political stability to materialize.
