Richard Dean Anderson reveals details on cancelled Stargate revival

Actor Richard Dean Anderson has provided new details regarding the cancelled Stargate revival planned for Amazon MGM Studios' Prime Video. Anderson, who played Jack O'Neill in Stargate SG-1, revealed that the production intended to use Michael Shanks' character, Daniel Jackson, as a “conduit” to bridge the original series with a new generation of the franchise.

Amazon confirmed the cancellation of the project this past June. Reports indicated that executives were concerned the creative direction led by showrunner Martin Gero might not achieve broad appeal beyond the existing fanbase. While specific plot details remained undisclosed, Anderson suggested that behind-the-scenes negotiations or development issues may have contributed to the project being forestalled, noting that the situation currently feels like a “dead issue.”
