Richard E Grant cuts ties with friends following wife's death
Actor Richard E Grant has revealed that he has permanently severed ties with friends who avoided him following the death of his wife, Joan Washington, in 2021. Grant described his approach to these relationships as “all or nothing,” stating that he has “edited” certain individuals out of his life because they kept their distance during his period of grief.
Washington, a prominent dialect coach, passed away at age 74 following a diagnosis of lung cancer. Grant, 69, noted that while some friends may have avoided him to bypass awkward conversations, he finds their absence unforgivable. He described the decision to end these connections as a permanent closure, using the phrase, “No, portcullis down. Goodbye.”
Grant, who was married to Washington for 35 years, shared that he continues to write to her every night. He also mentioned that he has not felt the desire for new companionship since her passing.
