Richard Grenell makes private visit to Skopje, meets Macedonian leaders

Richard Grenell, a special envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump, spent July 29, 2026 in Skopje on a private visit. He posted an Instagram video filmed from the rooftop of the Adora Flatiron building in the Kisella Vodë district, showing a panoramic view of the city.

During the visit Grenell held a private meeting with North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Foreign Trade Minister Timço Muçunski, which the government confirmed through the 360 Stepeni platform. No specific agenda was disclosed, though earlier contacts have touched on the "Çebreni" energy project and Macedonia’s EU accession process.

Grenell’s recent interactions with Macedonian officials include a discussion on strategic ties at the Munich Security Conference in February 2026 and a meeting in Washington in January 2025 during the inauguration of President Trump. He also visited Macedonia in August 2024.
