Richard III Premiere Lights Up Lovrijenac Castle in Dubrovnik

Shakespeare's tragedy *Richard III* opened its premiere on the historic Lovrijenac fortress as part of the 77th Dubrovnik Summer Games. Directed by Vito Taufer, the production is a co‑operation between the Dubrovnik Summer Games, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin.

The performance featured Filip Vidović in the title role, supported by a large ensemble of Croatian actors, live music by Mate Matišić, Damir Josipović and Darko Terlević, and elaborate costumes and set design. The event drew a crowd of locals, tourists and cultural officials, including Culture and Media Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek and senior staff of the festival.

The premiere highlighted the festival’s effort to give Shakespeare a new dimension on the iconic hilltop venue, showcasing a raw and energetic interpretation of the conflicted monarch.
