Richard Madegwa, former Harambee Stars defender, dies
Former Kenyan footballer and administrator Richard ‘Madez’ Madegwa has died. Madegwa was a prominent defender who played for the Harambee Stars national team, AFC Leopards, and Tusker FC (formerly Kenya Breweries).
During his playing career in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Madegwa secured several major honors with AFC Leopards, including the Kenya league titles in 1989 and 1992, as well as the Super Cup and Moi Golden Cup in 1991.
Following his retirement from professional play, Madegwa transitioned into coaching and football administration. He served as the Director of Coaching at KYSA International Soccer Academy, an assistant coach for Kenya’s Under-17 national team, and head coach of the Kenya National Deaf Futsal Team. He also held the role of organizing secretary for the Kenya Federation Coaches Association (KECOFA) and worked as a team manager and youth-programmes coordinator for AFC Leopards.
