Richard Manoogian, Masco Corporation Chairman Emeritus, dies at 90
Richard Manoogian, the Chairman Emeritus of Masco Corporation and a prominent American art collector, has died at the age of 90. His death was confirmed by Masco Corporation.
The son of Armenian immigrants Alex and Marie Manoogian, Richard joined Masco in 1958. He played a central role in the company’s rapid expansion between 1960 and 1980, overseeing the acquisition of more than 100 companies and growing annual sales from $55 million to over $8 billion by the time he stepped down as CEO in 2007. Under his leadership, Masco became a global leader in home improvement products, including the well-known Delta single-handle faucet.
Beyond his industrial career, Manoogian was a highly regarded philanthropist and art collector. He was a frequent inclusion on ARTnews’s Top 200 Collectors list and was known for significant acquisitions, such as George Caleb Bingham’s 1846 painting, ‘The Jolly Flatboatmen’. His collection has been featured in exhibitions at the National Gallery of Art, where he served as a member of the Trustee Council.
