Richard Tesařík, Yo Yo Band frontman, dies at 80

Richard Tesařík, the prominent singer, songwriter, and frontman of the group Yo Yo Band, has passed away at the age of 80. The musician had been fighting cancer since the end of last year.

According to sources, the illness eventually spread to his bones, causing significant pain, particularly in his back. Tesařík reportedly attempted to downplay his condition to friends, attributing his discomfort to kidney stones, and continued to perform with Yo Yo Band as long as his health permitted. His final concert took place on June 5 at the Útulek Fest in Ústí nad Labem.

Tesařík was a significant figure in the Czech music scene, known for hits such as ‘Rybitví’, ‘Karviná’, ‘Kladno’, and ‘Jedem do Afriky’. His musical style with Yo Yo Band blended reggae with elements of Latin, jazz, and soul. He is survived by his wife, Kateřina, and his sons, Štěpán and Viktor.
