Richard Thompson releases 20th solo album Hippies, Thugs and Heroes

Folk musician Richard Thompson has released his 20th solo album, titled ‘Hippies, Thugs and Heroes’. The record features a collection of stories centered on various characters, including misfits, lovers, and paupers, spanning multiple musical genres such as folk, singer-songwriter, and rock.

At 77 years old, Thompson noted that his creative process has evolved, stating that he finds it easier to reach a creative moment by allowing his subconscious to take over. Despite the release of this album, Thompson has addressed speculation regarding his retirement by suggesting a cycle of farewell and comeback tours. He also revealed that he wrote approximately 900 songs during the COVID-19 pandemic and is planning a future musical play.
