Richard-Wagner-Hain undergoes historical restoration in Leipzig

The eastern section of the Richard-Wagner-Hain in Leipzig has undergone historical restoration of its walls and stairs. The project involved repairing eight wall sections and four staircases, focusing on preserving the original natural stone materials and historical substance of the protected garden monument.

The first phase of the renovation cost approximately 1.2 million euros, with two-thirds of the funding provided by the ‘Lebendige Zentren’ urban development program. The site, which was originally intended for a monumental Richard Wagner memorial planned during the National Socialist era, will eventually serve as a space for contemporary art exhibitions in its wall niches.

Work is currently progressing on the second phase, which focuses on renewing paths and plaza areas to enhance the site as a public space for visitors.
