Richard Wagner Operas Staged at Bayreuth Festspiele and Dießen Open‑Air

The Bayreuth Festspiele will present the second part of Wagner’s Ring cycle, Die Walküre II, on 5 August 2026. Conductor Christian Thielemann leads the festival orchestra, delivering a performance praised for its nuanced tempos and luminous sound.

In Dießen am Ammersee, members of the Richard‑Wagner‑Ortsverband Bad Reichenhall attended an open‑air production of Wagner’s Tannhäuser. Despite heavy rain, the show continued, featuring a project orchestra under Rainer Armbrust and direction by Georg Rootering. The performance highlighted the opera’s conflict between spiritual longing and sensual temptation, with notable moments such as a pilgrim choir and a dramatic staging of Elisabeth’s death.
