Richard Zimler releases new dystopian trilogy

American author Richard Zimler, who has lived in Porto, Portugal, for decades, is releasing a new trilogy titled ‘O Voo dos Anjos Caídos’ (The Flight of the Fallen Angels) between September and November.

The series follows a protagonist named Falcão in a world devastated by a catastrophe known as ‘Juízo Final’ (Doomsday), a series of wars that occurred 300 years prior to the story's setting. The narrative depicts a world that has regressed to a near-medieval state, lacking modern technology such as the internet, automobiles, or mobile phones.

The first volume, ‘A Beleza das Coisas Imperfeitas’ (The Beauty of Imperfect Things), has been released by Porto Editora. A second volume is scheduled for October, followed by the final installment in November. The plot centers on Falcão’s struggle against the religious fundamentalism of an organization called ‘the Alliance.’ Zimler noted that while the themes involve intolerance and the loss of rights, he intends for the trilogy to ultimately encourage courage, justice, and solidarity rather than leaving readers without hope.
