Richarlison seeks contract termination to join Vasco da Gama

Brazilian forward Richarlison is engaged in a legal dispute with Tottenham Hotspur as he seeks a move to Vasco da Gama. After being excluded from Tottenham’s Premier League squad and relegated to training with the Under-21 side, Richarlison and his legal team are exploring a unilateral contract termination under FIFA’s Article 15, citing ‘sporting just cause’.

Vasco da Gama has expressed strong interest in the 29-year-old, but negotiations face several hurdles. Initial attempts at a loan deal were blocked by FIFA regulations regarding the number of players a club can loan to different federations. Consequently, Vasco has shifted focus to a permanent transfer, offering approximately 10 million euros for a portion of his rights. However, Tottenham has rejected these offers, reportedly seeking closer to 20 million euros for a full transfer.

While Richarlison is eager to return to Brazil, Tottenham is currently ruling out a free release. The player’s camp is also navigating contract length preferences, as the attacker reportedly prefers a shorter commitment in Brazil before potentially returning to Europe in 2027. Meanwhile, Vasco continues to manage its own financial restructuring, including the sale of its football corporation (SAF) and seeking judicial credit to stabilize its finances.
