Indiana Pacers defeat New Orleans Pelicans in NBA season opener

The Indiana Pacers opened their 2026-2027 NBA season with a 123-120 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. The win was highlighted by a strong performance from Croatian center Ivica Zubac, who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds, leading the team in rebounding.

Tyrese Haliburton made a significant return to the court following an Achilles tendon injury, contributing 23 points and 12 assists. Pascal Siakam led the Pacers in scoring with 30 points. Despite trailing by six points entering the final quarter, Indiana executed a comeback to secure the win against a Pelicans team led by Zion Williamson and Dejounte Murray.

Ahead of the season, Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle praised Zubac’s screening ability, comparing his impact on the game's geometry to legendary big men such as Shaquille O'Neal and Patrick Ewing. Carlisle also noted Haliburton's improved ability to drive with his left hand during his rehabilitation period.
