Rick Fox announces intention to seek leadership role in FNM

Former NBA player Rick Fox has announced his intention to seek a leadership position within the Free National Movement (FNM), the main opposition party in The Bahamas. Fox made the declaration during a Senate debate regarding the Older Persons Rights, Protection, Care and Support Bill, 2026.

Fox, who previously served as the FNM candidate for Garden Hills in the May 2026 general elections, stated that his goal is to help build a party worthy of the confidence of the Bahamian people and to attract new generations of leaders. While he did not specify which exact position he intends to pursue, he emphasized that his ambition is to raise the standards of the party rather than simply occupying a role.

The announcement follows a recent FNM conclave and comes as the party evaluates its direction after the recent general election results. Fox currently serves as a senator following his appointment by FNM leader Michael Pintard.
